A new season brings new faces, new names to remember, new challenges to take on, but what isn’t new is the commitment, passion and desire required and demanded for the Werribee Football Club to remain amongst the elite in the premier second tier competition, the VFL.
I can assure you that 2017 will be a watershed year in our club’s history, one in which we continue to embrace positive strategic changes both on and off the field, with the desired outcome being a year in which we provide elements of supreme enjoyment for our supporters, members, distinguished past players, officials, executives and administrators, not to mention our current football complement of coaches, players, support staff and volunteers. This year also presents the promise of surprise as we enter a season on the road, having christened our team as the “travelling tigers,” and as we all know a team that has youth, fitness and true belief in themselves can often achieve the unexpected, so our initial aspirations are to be competitive every time we take the field, combined with appearances in the month of September. The 2016 year also saw the successful completion the first year of the full alignment with our partners, North Melbourne Football Club, and the learnings from the year will stand us in good stead in the year ahead, not to mention the expectation of a better run with injuries within both clubs throughout the season. I am pleased to report that the redevelopment of our state of the art pavilion at Avalon Airport Oval within the Chirnside Park precinct has commenced and is expected to be completed late 2017 or early 2018, in adequate time for the commencement of the 2018 VFL season. Throughout 2016 we also made considerable progress in our multi-cultural community advances within the City of Wyndham, not to mention participation and support of women in sport and the recording of a healthy profit through proper governance and compliance. Mark Penaluna, our capable CEO, and his team continue to focus on a holistic approach to managing our Club, from sponsors to members, to all current or potential stakeholders, there is not a day goes by that Mark doesn’t build upon the fabric of our family and community club. Every person involved in our club is driven by continuous improvement and each has a burning desire to be part of a new found success internally and externally, with the “project management” continuing in earnest. As the premier football club of the City of Wyndham we thrive on challenges and accordingly we invite you to experience our successful journey as part of our family. Come to games, bring your friends, be vocal and parochial and cheers on your boys in the big W jumpers. We need your support and what we can promise you in 2017 is that through your involvement we will become a stronger club, so come along and hear our mighty roar. Go Tigers!
