The Werribee Football Club is pleased to announce the club board has decided to bestow life membership honours to Rick Wolany OAM.
Rick’s contribution to the club as an individual went above and beyond that usually associated with a major sponsor of a sporting organisation. Rick was a pivotal force in the public rally and fightback for the club at the end of the 1995 season, when extinction looked imminent. As major sponsor for more than a decade, Rick put his money where his mouth was and supported the Tigers through the highs and lows of the nineties.
In the 1998 Annual General Report, President David Brown wrote: “To our major sponsor Rick Wolany and the boys at Wolany Toyota, how does one express our gratitude to you for all your long-standing support of the club?”
The club has the answer now.
President Martin Carter is another with a long association with Rick.
“As a Werribee Football Club board member and Sports Club President during Rick’s decade of unparalleled support, I saw first-hand Rick’s contribution, not only financially but also behind the scenes as a boxing coach and mentor to our young leadership group. He was an integral part of our success.”
Rick’s health has been declining since being diagnosed with PSP – progressive supranuclear palsy – a motor neuron condition that affects balance, walking, eye movement, speech, swallowing, vision, and motor function.
The club acknowledges Rick’s valuable contribution to the history of the club, and it is fitting that he becomes a Life Member.
