Vale Rick Wolany

The Werribee Football Club this week farewelled long-time supporter Rick Wolany OAM, who passed away at the age of 70 after a brave battle with the rare but devastating neurological condition known as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

Rick was recently granted life membership of Werribee in recognition of more than a decade as the club’s major sponsor, during which he played a significant role in the 1995 public rally and fightback that helped save the club from extinction.

A former professional boxer and television personality who went under the moniker “Ricky Datsun”, Rick was an icon in the Wyndham community. He employed hundreds of local residents through his hugely successful Toyota dealership, and his philanthropy work extended well beyond the Werribee Football Club and saw him donate millions of dollars to a variety of local sporting clubs and community organisations.

Rick is survived by wife Leigh; children Staczia, Bree, Samantha, and Mark; and grandchildren Richard, Kane, Kristian, and Eden.

The Werribee Football Club extends its deepest sympathies to all of Rick’s family and friends during this difficult time.
