Tigers Bomb Chance
Senior coach John Lamont summed up everyone’s feelings after the final siren sounded on another loss for the Werribee Tigers last Saturday.
“It’s hard to believe, really, that a team can play so well in the first half and then the game just reversed. We just couldn’t generate enough contested ball wins and then turning that into inside 50’s and scores. It’s a very disappointing loss.”
Werribee went into the game with the chance to jump back into the top eight, and started better than they have in recent weeks kicking 4.6 to 3.2 in the first quarter, and extending that lead to 33 points at half time which pleased the coach.
“We had a really good first half up by over 30 points, and our team defence had been good.”
The complexion of the game started to change in the third quarter and the Bombers got on top “Essendon prevailed in the second half, they were just too steady and we wasted too many opportunities. Again we didn’t play four quarters same as the last few weeks.”
The loss has seen the Tigers slip to 10th on the ladder and very keen to reverse the losing trend of the past month with a home game against Coburg this Saturday.
“We need to regroup, we need a good week on the track and then put four quarters together against Coburg. Simple as that.”
Werribee will host Coburg this Saturday with the development game at 11am (fourth v second) then the seniors at 2pm.
