AFLW action lands in Werribee

30 July 2025

AFLW is coming to Werribee.

After an exciting first season in partnership with North Melbourne’s VFLW side, North Melbourne Werribee have secured the minor premiership with a round still to play in the home-and-away season. And now, Werribee fans will be treated to some North Melbourne AFLW action this weekend.

Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval is set to host a huge day of girls and women’s football this Saturday, August 2, with a triple-header and topping the bill an AFLW practice match between reigning premiers North Melbourne and Essendon.

With Werribee’s VFL side having the bye, it’s the perfect chance to get behind women and girls' football in our community.

The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos, reigning AFLW premiers, will be looking to sharpen up after a 16-point match simulation loss to the Western Bulldogs last Friday night. The clash with Essendon will be one of their final tune-ups before beginning their premiership defence with a tough Round 1 trip to Geelong on August 16.

Either side of the AFLW clash, fans can watch the next generation of talent with the Western Jets taking on the GWV Rebels (Girls), and the Geelong Falcons facing the Bendigo Pioneers (Girls).

From 11am to 3pm, a range of activities will run alongside the AFLW match, including football skills clinics, face painting, colouring stations, sensory play areas and giveaways. At halftime, local Auskick centres will take to the field for an Auskick game.

12:00pm - North Melbourne v Essendon (AFLW Practice Match)
