Cooper Whyte is set to play his 50th game for the Werribee Football Club when he runs out for Saturday’s clash with Footscray at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

He will become the second premiership player to bring up the 50-game milestone for the club in Saturday's clash with Footscray, joining Jaelen Pavlidis, who will also celebrate his 50th Werribee game after the pair made their club debuts together in Round 1, 2024 against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

Whyte enters his milestone match in his 14th appearance of the 2026 season, just two games after a best-on-ground performance in Werribee’s thrilling after-the-siren victory over St Kilda, where he collected 23 disposals and kicked two goals.

The milestone also doubles as Whyte’s 70th VFL appearance.

Originally selected by the Cats with pick No. 64 in the 2021 AFL Draft after coming through the Geelong Falcons, Whyte spent two seasons on Geelong's AFL list before joining Werribee ahead of the 2024 season.

One of six debutants in Werribee’s opening game of the 2024 season, Whyte made an immediate impression against his former club at GMHBA Stadium, finishing with 11 disposals, six marks and seven tackles to earn selection among Werribee’s best players.

Throughout his debut season in the black and gold, Whyte showcased his versatility, spending time through the midfield, on the wing, across half-back and up forward as Werribee charged towards its first premiership in more than three decades.

His willingness to play wherever the team needed him quickly made him one of the side’s most valuable role players, featuring in 20 games before finishing the season with both a premiership medal and the Coaches Award.

Whyte elevated his game again in 2025, cementing himself as a permanent inside midfielder and producing the most consistent football of his career.

Across 16 appearances, he averaged career-high numbers with 16.8 disposals, nine contested possessions, five tackles and 4.7 clearances per game.

His impact around goal also continued to grow, booting goals in four of Werribee’s opening six matches after kicking just four across his entire debut season.

The 24-year-old also developed a reputation for delivering in big moments, kicking important final-quarter goals in consecutive victories over Williamstown and Frankston before bringing up his 50th VFL game later in the season against North Melbourne.

Returning for a third season at the club in 2026, Whyte has embraced another new role, spending much of the year on the wing while continuing to provide the work rate and versatility that have become trademarks of his game.

He has already kicked a career-high eight goals from his opening 13 matches this season, while averaging 11 disposals, four marks and three tackles per game.

His finest performance of the year came in Round 16 against St Kilda, where he gathered 23 disposals and two goals to be named Werribee’s Player of the Match in the memorable one-point victory sealed by Tom Simpson’s after-the-siren goal.

Now, after 49 games in the black and gold, Whyte reaches his first milestone for the football club alongside Jaelen Pavlidis, with the pair celebrating their 50th Werribee games after debuting together against Geelong in Round 1, 2024.

Werribee will look to extend its winning streak to nine matches and reclaim the HealthWest Cup when it hosts Footscray on Saturday afternoon.

The Round 19 clash gets underway at 12:05pm at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.
