Werribee have stormed home with a nine-goal-to-two second half to defeat Footscray by 20 points at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

The 16.6 (102) to 11.16 (82) victory extends Werribee's winning streak to nine matches and ensures Werribee remains second on the ladder with a 12-3-1 record and only two rounds remaining in the home and away season.

Brady Wright starred with a career-high seven goals from 11 disposals, while also proving a constant aerial threat with seven marks.

Down back, Zane Keighran was outstanding, taking a game-high 11 marks from 24 disposals as he gave the Footscray forwards little room to move throughout the afternoon.

In the midfield, Ajang Kuol Mun continued his outstanding season with a game-high 31 hitouts and 10 clearances to go with his 18 disposals.

Jake Riding was influential around the contest, collecting 36 disposals, four clearances and four tackles, providing the spark Werribee needed in the second half.

Will Elliott hauled in a terrific pack mark at the top of the goalsquare before converting the opening goal of the afternoon.

The fast start continued when Wright slotted a 30-metre set shot for his first major.

Jay Dahlhaus was awarded a 50-metre penalty and made the most of the opportunity, converting from directly in front to make it three goals to one.

Cooper Whyte then pounced on a loose ball, steadied and snapped truly in his 50th Werribee game.

Despite the strong start, Footscray took a seven-point lead into quarter time after an entertaining, free-flowing opening term.

Riding's run and carry through the wing set up Wright in the forward pocket, with the spearhead converting his second goal.

The Bulldogs then piled on five consecutive scoring shots to open up a 16-point lead before Wright steadied Werribee, converting from a holding free kick at the top of the goalsquare.

Moments later, Wright flew high for a strong contested mark before slotting his fourth goal to keep Werribee within striking distance.

Footscray took a 16-point advantage into the main break after edging the second quarter four goals to three, with Wright's four first-half majors keeping Werribee firmly in the contest.

Daly Andrews found Wright on the lead early in the third term and the forward made no mistake from 45 metres, bringing up goal number five.

Soon after, Xavier Ivisic burst from the centre clearance and hit Wright lace out, with the in-form forward clunking another strong mark before converting his sixth.

Werribee came out breathing fire in the third quarter, with Sam Donegan soccering through a goal on the line to put Werribee back in front for the first time since the opening quarter.

The avalanche continued when Donegan found Elliott in the pocket, who drilled through his second as Werribee piled on six unanswered goals.

Harry Maguire then kicked two goals in as many minutes to extend the margin beyond three goals and cap an extraordinary run of six consecutive majors.

A remarkable third-quarter turnaround saw Werribee boot six goals to none and take an 18-point lead into the final change.

Wright's career-best afternoon continued in the final term, curling through his seventh goal from a tight angle along the boundary.

Tom Simpson read the fall of the ball brilliantly, gathered cleanly and snapped truly to extend the lead to 29 points.

Maguire then pounced on a loose ball from a stoppage and hammered home his third goal as Werribee ran out 20-point winners.

Werribee now turn their attention to an away clash with Tasmania at North Hobart Oval on Saturday, August 8, with the opening bounce at 11:05am.
