Werribee forward Brady Wright has been rewarded for a standout 2026 campaign, earning an invitation to the 2026 AFL State Draft Combine.

The 22-year-old is one of 39 players selected to attend a State Draft Combine, with invitations based on nominations submitted by AFL clubs. The invitation is recognition of the interest Wright has generated across the competition after his outstanding season in the black and gold.

The news comes just days after Wright produced the best performance of his VFL career, booting a career-high seven goals in Werribee's 20-point HealthWest Cup victory over Footscray. The win extended the club's winning streak to nine matches and secured second place on the VFL ladder.

Wright has enjoyed a remarkable rise since arriving at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval ahead of the 2025 season from Ballarat Football Netball League club Darley.

After showing plenty of promise in his debut VFL campaign with 14 goals from 14 games, Wright returned in 2026 following a strong pre-season and has developed into one of the competition's premier key forwards.

His season began in frustrating fashion after suffering a concussion in the opening quarter of Round 1 against Gold Coast, sidelining him for Werribee's Round 2 and Round 3 clashes against Sandringham and Geelong. Werribee was defeated in both matches before Wright returned in Round 4.

Upon returning, Wright wasted little time finding form. After kicking his first goal of the season against Frankston, he booted three goals in four consecutive appearances against Williamstown, Port Melbourne, Tasmania and Collingwood.

He then produced the best game of his career to that point with a six-goal haul against Essendon at Windy Hill in Round 10, including four goals in just over seven minutes during a blistering third-quarter burst.

The following week, Wright backed it up with five goals against Coburg to earn Werribee's Corked Player of the Month award before continuing his outstanding season with two goals against Brisbane, four against Carlton, including the match-sealing major in the seven-point victory, five against Southport, where he also recorded a career-high 16 disposals, and finally last weekend's career-best seven-goal performance against Footscray.

Despite playing just 13 games this season, Wright has kicked 42 goals to sit fourth in the race for the Frosty Miller Medal as the VFL's leading goalkicker. He also leads the competition for marks inside 50, highlighting his aerial dominance inside the forward arc.

The 2026 AFL Draft Combines will be held following the AFL Grand Final, with the Victorian State Draft Combine taking place on Saturday, October 3. Participants will complete a series of physical tests, including the 20-metre sprint, agility test, vertical jumps and a 2km time trial.
