Zac Banch Equals VFL Record
06 May 2025

As Jimmy Allan put it, Zac Banch didn’t have his goalkicking boots on last Saturday, finishing with 0.4, but the dynamic small forward still made VFL history against Frankston.
Banch recorded eight score assists, equalling the most ever recorded in a VFL game since Champion Data began tracking stats in 2006.
It’s only the third time the mark of eight has been reached, with Werribee’s own Shaun Mannagh the last to do it in 2022 against Geelong. Before that, Richmond’s AFL-listed Callum Moore, who played at the top level with both Richmond and Carlton, hit the same number in 2017 when Richmond defeated Sandringham.

The second-year Tiger was everywhere at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, collecting a career-high 25 disposals in a strong all round performance. Along with his four shots on goal, Banch set up a host of others, including six direct goal assists.
His efforts earned him the Totally Workwear Hoppers Crossing Player of the Match in Werribee’s 39-point win, with coach Jimmy Allan praising his impact:
“He didn’t have his goalkicking boots on, but his pressure and work rate created countless opportunities for us,” Allan said. “I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone have eight direct score assists in a game before.”
Banch came into the clash in hot form, having kicked three goals in each of Werribee’s previous two outings against Sydney and Williamstown.
He wasn’t the only forward to shine on Saturday either, Jay Dahlhaus booted a career-best five goals, while key forward and three-time club leading goalkicker Hudson Garoni equalled his personal best with six, as Werribee piled on 19 majors for the afternoon.
