Chad Ravlich unveiled as Third Hall of Fame Inductee

The Werribee Football Club is proud to announce the third of its seven inductees into its Hall of Fame as part of the club’s upcoming 60th Year Celebration.

Chad Ravlich, a dedicated club administrator who served in a range of key roles across more than two decades, will be inducted for his contribution to the Werribee Football Club.

He joins club games record holder Robbie Castello and past player and administrator Kirk Norton as the first three inductees who will be honoured at the 60th Year Celebration on June 15 at Club Tarneit.

The event will be held at Club Tarneit on June 15th, with tickets available now and can be purchased here.

Chad Ravlich, a Werribee Football Club life member, passed away in 2021 in Shoalhaven, New South Wales aged 92.

Ravlich became involved at the club in 1975, volunteering to join the committee and immediately taking on multiple roles. That year, he served as Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Officer, setting the tone for the level of commitment he would bring to Werribee for the next two decades.

One of the early highlights during Ravlich’s time came in 1978, when Werribee claimed its first piece of silverware by winning the VFA Lightning Premiership. The Grand Final was played as a curtain-raiser to the VFA Grand Final, with Werribee the only Division 2 club to win the competition during its eight-year run.

Ravlich served as Treasurer across nine seasons between 1975 and 1986, and as Secretary for six seasons, including 1988 to 1992, a significant phase in the club’s VFA journey. That period included the club making the finals in 1990, before winning its first final and reaching its first Grand Final in 1991.

Following his time as Secretary, Ravlich also held additional roles as Assistant Secretary and Administration in 1993 (the club’s first premiership year) and 1994.

Former President Greg Welsh reflected on his contribution.

“The Werribee Football Club was Chad’s life for 25 years,” Welsh said.

“He was always at the club, working tirelessly to keep the club afloat during some very difficult times. He started with the juniors and moved into the senior committee as Treasurer. He was basically a full-time volunteer. He was never paid a cent. He worked very closely with then Secretary Ray Smith and later John Pyne.”

Following our recent 2024 VFL Premiership success, the Werribee Football Club is excited to announce that our full suite of membership packages are now available for 2025.

Werribee Defeat Port Melbourne In A Thriller

Werribee returned to action following the bye and pulled off a thrilling eight-point win over Port Melbourne on Sunday.

At ETU Stadium, in a double-header that followed a dominant North Melbourne Werribee VFLW win earlier in the day, Dom Brew took charge in the final quarter, kicking the last two goals to drag his side over the line in a 7.7.49 to 5.11.41 victory.

The win moves Werribee to five wins and four losses at the halfway mark of the VFL season, currently holding a wildcard spot in tenth place.

Werribee kept Port Melbourne goalless in the first half, with premiership defenders Louis Pinnuck (29 disposals, seven marks) and Sam Azzi (17 disposals, five intercept marks) standing tall down back.

In blustery conditions at Port Melbourne on Sunday, both sides struggled to convert early chances, with neither able to find the big sticks in the opening term. Werribee took a one-point lead into quarter time, registering three behinds to the Borough’s two.

Werribee found their rhythm in the second quarter, with Hudson Garoni breaking the deadlock seven minutes in to kick the game’s first goal. Garoni’s major extended his remarkable streak to 32 consecutive games with at least one goal.

Shortly after, a strong intercept mark from Jake Lohmann set up an inside 50 that found Harry Maguire, who slotted the first of his two goals for the quarter against his former side, giving Werribee a 19-point buffer into half-time.

Port Melbourne broke through for their first major midway through the third term to open the second-half scoring. But Werribee responded with set-shot goals from small forwards Jay Dahlhaus and Harry Miller, maintaining that 19-point margin heading into the final term.

Port Melbourne came out firing in the final quarter, piling on three quick goals to hit the front 12 minutes in.

The Borough had chances to extend their lead soon after but couldn’t push the margin beyond a single kick, with several missed opportunities keeping Werribee within striking distance.

The game tightened as time-on approached, with stoppage after stoppage halting momentum, until Dom Brew stepped up. Brew, who had ten disposals in the final term, broke the deadlock, winning a late free kick inside 50 and calmly slotting the set shot from 25 metres out to put Werribee back in front.

Moments later, the star midfielder pounced on another chance, snapping truly from a stoppage to seal the eight-point win 31 minutes into the final quarter.

VFLW: Dominant Road Win Sees North Melbourne Werribee Top Table

North Melbourne Werribee has bounced back from last week's defeat with a dominant 27-point victory over Port Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.

The Roos were able to establish the early ascendency, keeping Port Melbourne scoreless in the first half to set up a 2.3 (15) to 6.6 (42) win at ETU Stadium.

Port Melbourne looked threatening after the main break, kicking two goals shortly after half-time, but the visitors were able to respond with two majors in reply to close the game out.

Skipper Renee Tierney was one of the best afield for the Kangaroos, picking up 16 disposals and six marks as she led her side to victory.

Tierney put the icing on the cake with the sealer late in the final term.

Restricting Port Melbourne to only two goals for the game, the Kangaroos defence built the foundation for a dominant showing. Stella Reid (16 disposals, eight intercepts) was the standout down back, with her intercept marking helping quell Port Melbourne'a second-half charge. Reid was well supported by Bridget Deed (18 disposals, nine intercepts) who impressed with her rebound work.

Nyakoat Dojiok led the way in front of goal, kicking three in the victory, including back-to-back efforts from superb contested marks in the second term. ETU Stadium continues to be a happy hunting ground for the star forward, backing up her four-goal performance in last year's VFLW Grand Final.

The 27-point victory sees North Melbourne Werribee return to the top of the table for the first time since Round 2. The Roos currently sit with a 5-2 record and a whopping 171 per cent.

North Melbourne Werribee will have a week off, before hosting Geelong at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, June 14. The opening bounce is slated for 2.45pm AEST.

Port Melbourne: 0.0 0.0 2.0 2.3 (15)

North Albury Young Gun Archer Gardiner To Debut

Werribee is set to unveil its 14th debutant of the 2025 season, with Archer Gardiner to play his first VFL game this Sunday at ETU Stadium.

The 20-year-old is one of two inclusions for the midseason draft departures Flynn Young and Zac Banch, with Brady Wright also returning for his eighth game of the year.

Gardiner, in his first season at Werribee, arrived at the club alongside his twin brother Foster from North Albury, the home club of premiership players Dom Brew and Sam Azzi.

He earns his debut after an impressive start to the season, playing both as an inside midfielder and on the wing. He was a standout in last weekend’s Ovens and Murray interleague win over Goulburn Valley, collecting 27 disposals and finishing with the most clearances on the ground.

Gardiner joined Werribee ahead of 2025 with more than three years of senior football experience, having made his debut for the Hoppers in 2021 at just 16 years of age. Since then, he has played consistently at senior level and earned several individual honours.

In 2022, he was named Best First Year Player at North Albury, and he went on to win the club’s Best Under 21 Player award in both 2023 and 2024.

Speaking ahead of his debut, Werribee’s Football Manager Kyle Hartigan said “We’re really excited for Arch. He’s come down from North Albury, where we’ve had a lot of talent come through, like Dom and Sam.”

Hartigan added, “We’re really looking forward to what he will bring, with plenty of run and carry. He has been performing at a high level, and his outstanding performance in the interleague last week has led to this exciting opportunity.”

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2:05 pm at ETU Stadium, marking Werribee’s second consecutive game on the road following a dominant 51-point win over Sandringham in Round 8.

Werribee enters the Round 10 clash sitting ninth on the ladder and will be looking to improve on their even 4-4 record from the first half of the season.
