Werribee Launches Junior Academy

The Werribee Football Club is proud to launch its first standalone junior academy, marking an exciting new chapter in the club’s commitment to youth development.

This new club-led initiative will provide another platform for football talent to emerge from the City of Wyndham.

Werribee Football Club Community Coordinator Krista Woodroffe said the program represents a significant platform for the future.

“We’re proud to launch the WFC Junior Academy as a key step in developing young talent across the Wyndham region. With a focus on high-performance training and skill development, this program strengthens the pathway for aspiring athletes to take the next step in their football journey.”

The program has been made possible thanks to the support of A Cleaner World, Kieser Werribee, and Corio Waste Management, who have all increased their sponsorships to help bring the academy to life.

Melisa Thompson, speaking on behalf of Corio Waste Management, said:

“Corio Waste Management is proud to be a founding sponsor of the Werribee Football Club Talent Academy.

With a 24-year relationship with the club, we’re pleased to strengthen our partnership through a program that nurtures the next generation of footballers in Melbourne’s west.

We recognise the value of investing in people and supporting the communities in which we operate. We look forward to seeing the program grow and thrive.”

The invite-only program is aimed at City of Wyndham-based players selected in Western Football Netball League Under 13 and Under 14 interleague teams, for both boys and girls.

The program consists of five free sessions and is delivered by Werribee’s community team, with support from VFL players, coaches, and high-performance staff.

Off the field, participants will also benefit from Kieser performance sessions, made possible through the involvement of academy partner Kieser Werribee, along with leadership and mental preparation workshops.

A high-performance excursion to North Melbourne Football Club will also take place, building on Werribee’s strong partnership with the AFL club.

The academy kicks off tonight, Monday, June 23, with a talent identification session at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval featuring over 70 participants.

Following our recent 2024 VFL Premiership success, the Werribee Football Club is excited to announce that our full suite of membership packages are now available for 2025.

2024 will forever be remembered for the drought-breaking Premiership, and in 2025... WE’RE GOING AGAIN. ARE YOU?

Liam Kershaw Becomes Werribee’s 17th Debutant of the Season

Werribee are set to unveil their 17th debutant of the 2025 season, with wingman Liam Kershaw named to make his club debut in Saturday’s Round 13 clash against Williamstown at DSV Stadium.

In a year where the reigning premiers have blooded plenty of youth, helped in part by the loss of five premiership players to the AFL, Kershaw’s inclusion marks the club’s highest number of debutants in a season since 2018, Werribee’s first year as a standalone side following the end of its North Melbourne affiliation.

The Kershaw name is a familiar one at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval, with Liam’s father Matt having served as an assistant coach at the club for five seasons under John Lamont and Mark ‘Choco’ Williams.

Kershaw joined Werribee following a breakout 2024 campaign with the Geelong Falcons, where the 194cm wingman averaged 17 disposals and six marks per game. His strong form earned selection in the Young Guns program, a showcase of the state’s best under-18 talent.

He has continued to impress at local level in 2025, playing nine games with St Joseph’s in the Geelong Football Netball League, the club he made his senior debut for in 2023 as a 17-year-old. After being named as an emergency at VFL level on several occasions, Kershaw now earns his opportunity off the back of a 23-disposal, nine-mark performance in last weekend’s win over 2024 grand finalists South Barwon.

While Saturday marks Kershaw’s club debut, he does have prior VFL experience, having played for Geelong in Round 17 last year against Footscray after a strong run with the Falcons.

Speaking on Kershaw’s opportunity, Football Manager Kyle Hartigan said, “We're really excited for the football club having Liam debut after putting together a number of consistent performances."

Kershaw is the sole inclusion for this week’s clash, replacing the injured Ryan Eyers, who will miss his first game of the season.

Werribee will be looking to bounce back after a narrow two-point loss to Geelong last weekend, where a five-goal final quarter wasn’t quite enough to overturn the deficit. Sitting at five wins and six losses, a win would even the ledger and keep the Tigers in the hunt for a Wildcard spot.

Round 13 - Werribee vs Williamstown (Away)

After back-to-back home games, Werribee will hit the road this week to face Williamstown at DSV Stadium in a crucial clash for both clubs.

It’s the second meeting between the sides in 2025, with Werribee claiming a 20-point win in their earlier encounter at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

Werribee will be looking to bounce back after a narrow two-point loss to Geelong last Saturday, where a five-goal final quarter fell just short as the Cats held on.

Currently sitting 12th with a 5-6 record, a win would level the Tigers' ledger and push them into a wildcard position.

The match also carries plenty of importance for Williamstown, who have put together a strong season and sit ninth on the ladder, just one win outside the top four.

They enter the Round 13 clash in hot form, having won their last five matches, including a 56-point victory over Brisbane in Round 11 before last week’s bye.

The first bounce is at 3:05 pm, with the game also streamed live and free on the AFL app and AFL.com.au. Click here to watch the game live.

Luke Preece - Drysdale

He finished with 14 disposals and six marks, including four contested, and was named among the Hawks' best. Goulburn Valley Football League:

Dom Gugliotti - Mooroopna

Playing tall, he defended well and on top of that finished with 23 disposals at an extremely efficient 87%. His courage was also on display as he battled on after a head clash that required stitches.

Murray Football League:
Fergus Pinnuck - Cobram

Off the back of a 42-disposal showing last game, Pinnuck continued his strong form, being named among the best in Cobram’s narrow win over Rumbalara. Despite limited game time, he still managed a goal from eight disposals and has looked classy across his five quarters of action this season.

Liam Kershaw - St. Joseph’s

He worked hard at the contest and provided a strong physical presence throughout the day, continuing to lead from the front in a side missing several key players.

Essendon District Football League:

Reuben Rode - Greenvale
In his first game back from injury, Reuben Rode was busy as his Greenvale side went down to Maribyrnong Park by 30 points. Playing mostly forward with some midfield time, he worked himself into the game after a patchy start, finishing with 20 disposals and two goals.
