Werribee Welcomes Rising Star Ruckman
31 October 2025
Werribee is thrilled to welcome one of the league’s standout ruckmen, Ajang Kuol Mun, who joins us from Port Melbourne ahead of the 2026 Smithy’s VFL season.
The 206cm ruck arrives at the perfect time following the recent retirement of Werribee’s premiership big man, Sam Conway.
After a remarkable rise in 2024, Kuol Mun established himself as one of the competition’s standout ruckmen in 2025. Carrying the number one ruck mantle for Port Melbourne across all 18 games, the 23-year-old averaged 11.6 disposals, five clearances and 27 hitouts per game in just his second season at VFL level. For his efforts in his first year, he was awarded the Borough’s Best First Year Player.
He also showed his ability to push forward and hit the scoreboard, finishing with nine goals for the year, while his athleticism and high-leaping ability regularly caught the eye, taking several “Mark of the Year” contenders throughout the season.
Born in a Kenyan refugee camp, the 23-year-old is a soccer convert who only began playing football in 2023 with Anakie in the Geelong District Football Netball League. His rapid rise saw him earn an opportunity with Geelong’s VFL program in 2024, where he played five games in his debut season of state-league football.
Although Geelong’s tall stocks limited his opportunities that year, Kuol Mun’s athletic traits stood out and earned him a state combine invite, where he recorded the top running vertical jump nationwide at 90cm.
Football Manager Kyle Hartigan welcomed the addition of one of the best ruck prospects in the VFL.
"We’re really excited to bring AJ into the team. He’s an exciting prospect who showed his talent at the level, holding the number one ruck spot at Port Melbourne in every game across the season. It’s come at a good time with Sam Conway retiring at the end of the year, and with changes coming to ruck adjudication we can’t wait to see AJ give our mids first use next season.”
It is time to write the next chapter in the history of the Werribee Football Club.
